Simčič Karol & Igor & Marijan

The wine cellar Simčič has been preserved to this day. The current owner Karol and his sons Marijan and Igor together cultivate 50 hectares of terraced vineyards at an altitude of 150-300m above sea level, where elegant white wines such as Rebula, Pinot Pinot Pinot, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Sauvignon mature.
Among the red wines are merlot, cabernet sauvignon and the king of red wines refoski. Goriška Brda has been proud of its viticulture and winemaking since the Roman Empire. With the reign of Rome came the vine and other Mediterranean vegetation, which has been preserved to this day.
Extreme conditions, such as rough terrain, extreme sunshine, little rainfall in the summer months, micro-climate and soil composition (fleeces or Brda ash) give the grapes a special quality and later wines with a high mineral content and unique taste in the world. At our estate Simčič, too, I pride myself on a long history of viticulture and winemaking. From the 19th century there are ownership notes in the land register in the name of Anton Simčič. At that time, wine was sold to nearby merchants and restaurants. A very important role was later played by the construction of the railway Vienna - Gorica - Trieste. When this connection was established, the winemaker borrowed several horses with a carriage, loaded the barrels on the wagons and transported the wine to the railway to Gorica. Wine barrels were loaded onto wagons and the wine made its way to merchants and restaurateurs in Trs, Vienna, Ljubljana and other cities.
