O nas

Vinoteka Brda d. o. o. was established in the middle of 2000. The idea of a sales and promotion centre was supported by the municipality of Brda and a large part of the most important Brda winemakers, the choice of the cellar premises of the castle at Dobrovem was self-evident at that time, we overgrown these premises and therefore we decided to move the new premises to the beautiful medieval village of Šmartno.   In the shelter of thick stone walls and protective towers that surround the medieval village of Šmartno, we found the right conditions for respectful acquaintance with wine as a drink, which speaks to us about tradition, about the attachment of people to this land, about the knowledge of how to use natural resources to produce exceptional wines.
We have an impressive number of local winemakers on our wine list, which gives us an extremely wide wine offer for our guests, so with the friendly help of our staff, everyone will find the most suitable wine for their soul.   In Vinoteka Brda we have collected the best Brda has to offer, to which we have added a careful selection of Slovenian boutique producers of cheeses and meat products, so that getting to know the wine-growing region of Goriška Brda quickly turns into a unique culinary experience.

Goriška Brda terroir

The Brda wine-growing district comprises 2,000 hectares of vineyards on the fly hills on the right bank of the Soča River. This land was below sea level 50 million years ago and is formed from thousands of tiny layers created by underwater creeping mud and sand. There are quite a few shellfish trapped between these layers, which come back to the surface during deep ploughing. The soil contains little organic matter, which is why it is rich in salt and minerals, which the vines with their spread roots slowly pump and load into the grapes. The climate also gives an important stamp to the wine, as it is here that the influence of the Mediterranean and the Alps mix. This is how we produce wines with a rich body and expressive flowers, which are good young and fresh, but develop all their beauty only after several years of maturation in wooden barrels and aging in bottles.Viticulture has been known in these areas since Celtic-Roman times, and the current selection of wine varieties was finally established in the last century, especially after the attack of the phylloxera, which destroyed most of the vineyards at that time in the second half of the 19th century. Of the old varieties, the most preserved is the rebula, which is rightly considered an autochthonous Brda variety. The oldest mention of rebula is in the contract of sale from 1336, a slightly shorter patriarchal right has (Furlano) Tokaj, and Verduc and Picolit have been in our region for a long time, but they are marginal varieties. In the past, red ribula or goblet was also very popular, but today nobody grows it in our wine-growing region. Most of us remain faithful to the production of varietal wines, but more and more wineries are preparing one or two varieties as the noblest part of their wine offer.

O Brda - moja domovina

presladka, slajša kakor vina

zoreči grozdi, ki nad vrati

hiš naših se v jeseni zlati

bleščijo. Brda moja, mila

in draga moja domačija...
