Medot

The Simčič family's wine tradition dates back to 1812. Over the decades, the link with the vine and the wine was strengthened, and in the 1990s, Miro Simčič built on the foundations of family knowledge and work to establish today's Medot brand.
Miro Simčič was not only the founder of Medot, but also the driving force behind the development of the entire region during his rich lifetime. Today, his memory lives on in every vine of the native yellow rhubarb that bears fruit and in every drop of fine Brisk wine. A man with a big heart and a clear head, he built on his love of his native land by studying wine-making in Italy and Ljubljana and, with the knowledge he acquired, made an important contribution to the general development of the Brik wine region. For many years, Miro was the head of the Goriška Brda Cooperative Winery, which under his stewardship experienced a true renaissance. Cellars and new premises were built, new international grape varieties were planted, and Miro was responsible for ensuring that the indigenous and much-loved yellow rebula was not forgotten. His efforts and successes have been repeatedly recognised and rewarded. He was made an Honorary Citizen of Brdo and, thanks to his work in the field of wine, he was also made a member of the Italian Academy of Vine and Wine and a member of the Order of Knights of the Ordo Equestris Vini Europae. Throughout his service, Miro has never neglected his family's vineyards. His favourite place to spend the breaks between important meetings was in the company of his father, Medot, on the terraced hillsides, which were always a source of inspiration, comfort and relaxation.Mir's commitment to the well-being of the region and its people, and his expertise, are a valuable legacy that is carried on today by his son Igor and grandson Simon.
The Medot family's single vineyard is located in the heart of the Goriška Brdi Mountains and covers three hectares. From the top of the hill, we have a magnificent view of terraces of yellow ribouli, blue pinot and chardonnay. The vines, which are up to 40 years old and were grafted from the old Medot vineyard, have ideal conditions and thrive in this area with its specific microclimate.
Right at the top of the hill, at the very edge of the vineyard, lies a modern underground wine cellar, built at the turn of the millennium to provide the best conditions for the production of fine sparkling wine. During the harvest, precision is essential to control and monitor all the important processes that affect the quality of the wine.
