Vino meseca: Črna rebula, classic 2018

Črna Rebula from the Erzetič wine house in Višnjevik in Goriška brda is a wine made from an old variety of the Brescian grape, also known as cup. According to some historical records, this variety has flourished in the Goriška Brda region since the Middle Ages, with wine made from 'pokalka' being served to guests at a wedding as early as 1282, but it was planted more intensively in the region mainly in the 19th century.

Although the black rebula is also known on the Italian side of the Goriška Brda Mountains as schioppettino, the name 'Pokalca', which disappeared from the Brda Mountains after the Second World War, is said to be due to its unusual characteristic, which is that the grape's berry bursts audibly in the mouth when it is chewed.
