Zalatel

The farm extends over 14 hectares, of which 10 hectares are vineyards. It is located on the southwestern slopes of Brda, in the middle of the hill above the creek Kožbanjšček. The main locations are Jama, Teza, Hrib and Vrh. The predominant soil structure is brickwork (layers of lapor and sandstone), which was formed during the Eocene period, when Brda watered the sea. The presence of the sea is still felt today in the wind from the south.
But at night we get chill from the north, where the Alps draw the horizon. The world is poor, but at the same time rich. Minerals that give the wine a special touch. The hilly world and the correct orientation of the central axes of the vineyards offer excellent conditions for the growth of many varieties and the production of wines that build on freshness, albeit of a slightly more robust body.About the first owners, who were probably Furlans, entered in the cadastral books under the surname de Onesti. Of these honest ones, we would say at home, to whom Ivan Janez Zalatel, a handsome boy from the neighbouring hill, came at the beginning of the twentieth century for his son-in-law. We would also know that this part of the Hrushevlium belonged to Dolenje, today in Italy, at that time in the Austro-Hungarian two-headed monarchy. A large market in the heart of Europe allowed good sales of early fruit, as well as wine produced on the farm up to 200 hectolitres per year. Once upon a time, the slopes with the farm grabbed the nickname Na Čistem, which has been preserved to this day.The wishes and ideas of honest farmers to produce better and more were crossed by the stormy events of the past century. The period of wars, collapses and births of states, cooperatives and economic uncertainty ended only with the independence of Slovenia in 1991. Two years later, the Zalatels also embarked on the path of independence.
Today, the range of wines from the Zalatel farm is more extensive, and as the latest innovation and a tribute to previous generations, it also includes de Onesti sparkling wine. To toast together to all the good things we can do and experience!
